  • OCTOBER 2 — CASE FILE 02 | THE ABANDONED OFFICE

    Investigators enter Dr. Well’s office
Her chair is pushed away from the desk. Her coat is gone. Nothing appears damaged and there are no obvious signs of a struggle.
    On the desk investigators find:
    • A medication bottle
    • A nutrition label
    • An insurance card
    • A handwritten web address
    • A medical report
    • An empty coffee cup
Six pieces of evidence. But evidence without context can be misleading.

  • Which item should investigators automatically assume caused Dr. Wells’ disappearance?*
  • CASE UPDATE: Security records show Dr. Well left her office voluntarily later that evening.

    LOCATION ELIMINATED: WELLNESS OFFICE

One location is off the board.

Investigators take the medication bottle into evidence.

The bottle contains an over-the-counter medication. Before drawing conclusions, you examine its Drug Facts label.

    The directions state:

Take 1 tablet every 6 hours. Do not take more than 4 tablets in 24 hours.

Dr. Well’s notes indicate she took one tablet at 6:00 PM.

  • Based only on these directions, what is the earliest time another dose could be taken?*
  • DETECTIVE’S NOTE: Medication labels contain important information about directions, warnings, ingredients and safe use. Read the label rather than relying on assumptions or memory.

Someone else in the Manor remembers discussing this very bottle with Dr. Well...

Dr. Acula folds his arms when questioned.

“Yes, she asked me about it. And I told her exactly what I tell everyone! READ THE LABEL.”

He says Dr. Well was particularly interested in the medication’s warnings.

  • Where would you look for conditions or situations in which an OTC medication may not be appropriate?*
  • Security records support Dr. Acula’s statement that he left the Manor before Dr. Well’s final 8:17 PM message.

    SUSPECT ELIMINATED: DR. ACULA

    Five remain.

Investigators return to the office and examine the nutrition label found beside Dr. Well’s notes.

    Serving Size: 1 cup
    Servings Per Container: 2
    Added Sugar: 8g per serving

Dr. Well circled the words “PER SERVING.”

  • If someone eats the entire container, how much added sugar would they consume?*
  • DETECTIVE’S NOTE: Nutrition information is usually listed per serving. Always check serving size and servings per container before interpreting a label.

The label came from food prepared in the Manor Kitchen.

  • If the entire package was eaten, how many calories would it contain?*
  • Kitchen camera footage confirms Count Calorie remained in the kitchen during the critical period.

    LOCATION ELIMINATED: MANOR KITCHEN

Four suspects. Four locations. Six possible causes.

Problems lasting longer than six months are generally considered chronic and should be managed by a primary care provider.

  • Which situation best fits the purpose of the Employee & Family Health Clinic?*

While attempting to verify the questionable health information Hazel had shared, Dr. Well discovered an old archive hidden behind the Library shelves. The door closed behind her and jammed, trapping her inside.

Hazel did not intentionally harm Dr. Well. But the unreliable online claim she shared started the chain of events that led Dr. Well to the Library.
